Famous Afrobeat musician Kizz Daniel, whose real name is Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, has spoken about his relationship with his father, who passed away.
He discussed the inspiration for his song "Al-Jannah"—his father's passing—in a podcast interview.
His claim is that "when my dad was alive, he was my best friend," as Kizz Daniel put it.
The name "Al-Jannah" means "paradise) in Arabic. Composing a memorial song was my intention. People have died while we were here. Our son passed away in 2021.
We lost a lot of people: my dad in 2015, my wife's mum in 2024, my step-mum, and many more.
More than everything, I wanted to write a song that could be enjoyed by anyone. It's about the people we've lost along the way in this life.
He credited the inclusion of the word "friend" in the song as the key to his success.
Tragically, Kizz Daniel's father passed away on May 9, 2015, a few days after he turned 21.
