In Niger, vigilantes free nine hostages after engaging in gunfire with bandits

According to reports, vigilantes from Kontagora town in Niger State's Kontagora Local Government rescued nine hostages after engaging in a vicious fire battle with suspected assailants.

During the gun duel, the bandits allegedly murdered one vigilante and wounded another.

Rumour has it that something happened on Thursday night, perhaps between nine and ten o'clock.

The nine people were abducted after the gunmen stormed the towns of Waya and Basawa.

But the vigilantes supposedly rescued the day by stepping in just in time.

An eyewitness said that the bandits broke into the Waya village and abducted four people.

The informant went on to say that the assailants abducted five more people in the Basawa neighbourhood after that.

According to the source, the nine unharmed individuals were rescued after the vigilantes in the region quickly rallied and clashed with the robbers at Umma Farms, which is located on the outskirts of town.

In addition, GROWING2GETHER7 has learnt that during the gun duel, one vigilante, Aliyu Agaji, was murdered and another was injured.

Unfortunately, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, was unavailable when this report was submitted, therefore attempts to obtain a response from the command were unsuccessful.
