David Beckham, a former star for Real Madrid, has predicted that Lamine Yamal, a young player for Barça, could one day reach Messi's level of excellence.
After bursting into the scene last year with Barcelona, Yamal has stepped it up a notch this year.
The teenage Spanish international Yamal has become an integral element of the Catalans' starting lineup after appearing in 51 games this season and contributing to 15 goals and 24 assists.
Even though he is only 17 years old, Yamal has already won the European Championships and the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España this season.
When it comes to the LaLiga title race, Barcelona is likewise in first place.
Lionel Messi, Barcelona's most famous star, has already been compared to Yamal because of his efforts.
Beckham described Yamal as the "closest thing" to Lionel Messi right now during an appearance on Beckham and Friends, as reported by The Mirror.
When you watch him play, it's hard to believe he's only 17 years old. It's like a once in twenty to thirty years (or longer) occurrence for a player of his caliber to emerge on the field.
"When you first see him, he's the player you can't help but notice. You really can't put anyone in comparison to Messi, in my view.
To be honest, I haven't seen anything else quite like him. "I think he could be just as good as Leo one day," Beckham stated.
Barcelona has a contract with Yamal until 2026, but he will likely sign a new deal this summer when he turns 18.
