The reasons why Abia government employees did not pass their promotion exams - Otti

Those state employees who did not do well in the promotion and confirmation exams did not study enough, according to Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

While answering questions from journalists during the December edition of his monthly media chat, Otti made this statement on Friday at Government House, Umuahia.

The Governor assured everyone who did not pass the first round of exams that they would not be fired and that they would be given another chance to do so.

On the other hand, he did say that civil servants who did not pass the promotion exam will stay in their current positions until they do.

Taking an exam when you haven't studied for it increases the likelihood that you will do poorly, he explained.

Apparently, every single applicant for a position in the state's civil service was successful in past exams, but that won't happen anymore, he said.

The Governor has stated that security authorities are looking into the case of government officials who are allegedly involved in the theft of pension money, emphasizing that the state would not stand for the theft of public monies.

Additionally, Otti revealed that he has ordered the Abia State Accountant General to pay the retirement benefits of Permanent Secretaries who have been disengaged.

Concerning the region's security, he stated that the South East governors are still working together to find solutions.

He assured them that he would look into the claims that a gang of security guards posing as the Mobile Court extorted truckers on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State.
