Newcastle United great Alan Shearer has praised Scott McTominay's decision to leave Manchester United. McTominay is 27 years old.
The Scottish midfielder severed links with his boyhood club during the summer transfer window, according to Shearer, and he was wise to do it.
McTominay enrolled in the Manchester United academy when he was five years old.
After that, he helped the Red Devils win the FA Cup and the EFL Cup in 255 appearances.
Nonetheless, he spent the summer at Serie A club Napoli.
Shearer told Betfair that Scott McTominay made the right choice by moving nations and trying something new, both on and off the field.
In retrospect, I'm curious as to McTominay's thoughts on Man United's actions (or more accurately, their lack thereof) this season.
The transfer to Napoli appears to be going swimmingly, so Scott will look back and feel good about himself.
"From his perspective, he appears to be enjoying it, he has scored a couple of goals, and he is developing a good relationship with Romelu Lukaku."
