Opukeme, co-director of Farmer's Bride, discusses the film's central theme and the lessons it teaches

The film's writer and co-director, Jack'enneth Opukeme, has recently spoken about the film's central message and the lessons it hopes to teach.

During Thursday, October 3rd, at the Movie Press Screening in Filmhouse Cinemas, Lekki, Opukeme—who co-directed the film with Adebayo Tijani—made this revelation while speaking to a small group of media.

Ola Rotimi's The Gods Are Not to Blame, in which the protagonist Odewale plays a significant role, has served as an inspiration to the filmmaker since, in his view, individuals are complicated and their reactions under pressure are often unpredictable.

He went on to say that Funmi and Femi would not have met their tragic ends if her parents hadn't coerced her into marrying the rich farmer against her will.

Humanity, he said, "is complicated. You have cornered me, and now you can't control my reaction.

Hopefully, everyone will realize that the monster we created is going to come back to haunt us one day.

A lot of problems could have been avoided if we had simply given a main character some space, according to the film's message.

A rich farmer named Odun finds himself increasingly isolated as he ages in the film Farmer's Bride because he has never found love.

When he weds Funmi, a young woman whose parents had her married against her will, he finds a temporary fulfillment of his desire for friendship.

Since Funmi is unhappy in her marriage, she starts having an affair with Femi, Odun's nephew.

A terrible ending, disillusionment, treachery, and love are revealed as a result of their deeds.

Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola are just a few of the impressive actors and actresses featured in the film, which will be released in theaters on Friday, September 27, 2024.
